Announcements from the Montgomery County Village Coordinator

11/29/2020

  1. Fairfax County is looking to hire a full time Village Coordinator:
The majority of the work will be Village Coordination for Fairfax County, however. I am happy that this has finally happened.  If you can pass the job announcement along, I would be grateful.  The application closing date is December 4.  Here is the link to see the position and to apply:  https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/fairfaxcounty/jobs/2910796/management-analyst-ii-ltc-development-program-analyst?page=4&pagetype=jobOpportunitiesJobs

  1. Dementia Resources: Kensington Club
Kensington Club has been offering an in-person social club for people living with early-stage memory loss, for nearly 13 years. We began partnering with the county in 2016 when we put a location in Germantown Community Center then White Oak S.C. in 2020.
THEN Covid hit and we went virtual. We were serving the existing members for 6 months and then decided to 're-open' to the public on Oct. 1. We gained 4 new members who never knew the in-person program. It's touching to see them bonding and benefiting from the connection so quickly via the screen!
We have switched to Zoom programming for our early memory loss social engagement program. All of our programs are free and we anticipate they will remain free until we are able to meet in person again.

  1. Dementia Resource: Friends Club
A message from The Friends Club: We offer two one-hour Zoom sessions per week that include guided current events discussions, word games, trivia, short historical lectures, jokes, exercise and more. We also offer several musical performances per month.  If anyone is interested, I ask that they email me directly so that I can get them set up with the Zoom links.  Although I know that screen time is not the same, we do believe that we are providing an important opportunity for safe socialization and intellectual stimulation, which is critical for people with memory loss. http://friendsclubbethesda.org/
