MSDE Child Care Stabilization Grant
​

The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) announced that licensed child care centers and registered family child care providers in Maryland can apply for Child Care Stabilization Grants. The more than $309 million American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act of 2021 child care stabilization initiative provides grants to licensed providers that sustain the child care sector and build a stronger child care system. 

Child care providers licensed by the Maryland State Department of Education no later than March 11, 2021 (as required by the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021) are eligible to receive an American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act of 2021 Child Care Stabilization Grant if they are:
  • Open and available to provide child care services on the date the application is submitted, or
  • Temporarily closed on the date the application is submitted due to public health, financial hardship, or other reasons relating to the COVID-19 public health emergency, but commit to re-open to provide child care services no later than September 7, 2021.
Grant Period: August 6, 2021-March 6, 2022
Grant Awards Amounts: $15,000 base award and $300 per licensed slot
Grant Application Submission Deadline: August 6, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. EST

Deadline Extended: MoCo Economic Development Grant for Nonprofits

The MoCo Economic Development Grant Program for Nonprofits will provide competitively selected grants ranging from $10,000 to $20,000. The grant is for Montgomery County nonprofits with initiatives that align with one (or more) of the four identified priorities: (1) Minority Entrepreneurship, (2) STEM Education, (3) Research and Innovation Development, and (4) Small-Scale Manufacturing.

The application deadline has been extended. The new due date is July 23, 5pm and award notifications begin August 16. Click here for more info and to apply.

Nonprofit Montgomery Updates

Nonprofit Montgomery Budget Advocacy
The FY22 Operating Budget approved Thursday has good news for nonprofits and the people we serve. In addition to new funding for Consolidated Service Hubs, safety net health clinics, and housing, the budget includes increases in nonprofit contracts.

Nonprofit Montgomery strongly advocated for a 3% increase in base budget contracts in all departments. Base budget contracts may extend over multiple years without cost of living increases, which can be harmful to nonprofits as costs increase each year.  

We are so pleased that the  FY22 Operating Budget includes:
  • The County Executive's 1.5% increase in nonprofit contracts in DHHS in the FY22 Operating Budget (a first!).
  • The Council added a 1.5% increase to DHHS contracts, for a total increase of 3%. This is a big win, as 90% of nonprofit contracts are held by DHHS.
  • The Council also added a 3% increase for nonprofit base budget contracts in the Department of Housing and Community Affairs and the Department of Recreation (another first!)
Thank you to our members for joining with us in advocating for nonprofits. And thank you to our County Councilmembers and their hardworking staff for their recognition of the importance of the nonprofit sector. As we know, nonprofits are more essential than ever.

Juneteenth, observed on June 19th, is the celebration of when many enslaved Blacks received word that they had been freed. Our friends at Nonprofit Prince George's County acknowledges this day as a Day of Remembrance/Service and created this pdf with background, call to action, and more. 

Employee Retention Credit 20-21: Do you qualify? Last December the Taxpayer Certainty and Disaster Tax Relief Act was signed into law. This provided further stimulus and support for businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Click here for more information.

Request for Applications (RFA) in its COVID-19 Response
The Maryland Department of Health (MDH, or the State, or the Department), Minority Health and Health Disparities (MHHD) is issuing this Request for Applications (RFA) in its COVID-19 response to fund community based organizations to implement strategies aimed to identify, outreach, and vaccinate disadvantaged, vulnerable, underserved, and hard-to-reach populations. Click here for more information.

State Relief Funds for Nonprofits
The MD Department of Housing and Community Development announced a new $20 million in state relief funds for nonprofits. The funds are allocated by the General Assembly as part of the Maryland COVID-19 Recovery Act. $3,475,000 is allocated to Montgomery County. The grants will be administered by the Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation (MCEDC) by September. Click here for more information.

Share Your Life Stories

The Maryland Department of Aging, in partnership with Story Tapestries (a local non-profit), is pleased to announce the launch of Share Your Life Stories, an initiative designed to address the issue of social isolation many older adults are experiencing as a result of COVID-19.  Share Your Life Stories is designed to give older adults throughout the state a chance to engage and connect with others in a safe and creative environment.
Share Your Life Stories is a series of virtual presentations and workshops where participants listen, learn the art of storytelling, and share their life stories.  For those without smart phones and computers, there is telephone access to all events.  There are two types of events 1) Storytelling Broadcast and 2) Story Circles. The “Storytelling Broadcasts” offer participants a chance to log on or dial in to hear award winning storytellers. The "Story Circles" events are interactive and give participants a chance to log in or dial in and be a part of small groups to learn the art of storytelling, and share their stories.  All events are free of charge for Marylanders 60 and older. Registration is required and available on a first come basis.

Our first storyteller is Noa BaumWho is Noa Baum? Born and raised in Israel, Noa Baum is an award-winning storyteller, author, public speaker, and coach. She focuses on the power of storytelling to heal across the divides of identity and build bridges of peace.
