It’s estimated that 1 in 3 Americans have pre-diabetes. If you’re at risk, have a family history of diabetes, or have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes, learn about essential lifestyle modifications to slow or prevent the onset of diabetes.

This monthly meeting features guest speakers discussing topics for living well with diabetes. In May, a Suburban Hospital registered dietitian will review the role of nutrition in managing diabetes.

Dine, Learn & Move: Smile for Health
Wednesday, Apr. 28 6–7:30 p.m. Free!
Get your heart pumping with a fitness activity, watch a live cooking demonstration and receive tips for making healthy choices. April is National Oral Health Month, and we will focus on how eating smart and exercising can improve oral health. Email wellnessinfo@co.pg.md.us to register.

Atrial fibrillation is an irregular heartbeat or arrhythmia that can lead to blood clots, stroke or heart failure. Cardiologist Edward Healy, MD, will review the signs and symptoms of atrial fibrillation and share treatment options.

Following breast cancer treatment, some patients experience lymphedema. Join us to learn more about this chronic condition and how to treat it.

This gently paced yoga class is open to all cancer survivors looking to restore and refresh their body, mind and spirit. No prior yoga experience needed.

Prostate Cancer Support Group
Monday, May 17 6:30–7:30 p.m. Free!
This monthly support group is open to prostate cancer patients and their loved ones. In May, radiation oncologist Stephen Greco, MD, will discuss the impact of prostate cancer treatment on erectile function and review treatment options for erectile dysfunction.
Meditation and Mindfulness
Practices to Help People Affected by Cancer
Sundays, 7:30–8 p.m. Thursdays, 7–8 p.m. Free!
Patients and loved ones will learn ways to regulate the stress response, discover a deeper sense of ease, and gain a greater sense of balance and intentional choice. Contact Pam Goetz at pgoetz4@jh.edu to register and learn more.
Restorative Yoga for Cancer Patients and Survivors
Mondays, 7:30–8:30 p.m. (Mat yoga) Wednesdays, 10–11 a.m. (Chair yoga) Fridays, 5–6 p.m. (Combined chair/mat yoga) Free!
These restorative and gentle yoga classes for people with a history of cancer and their caregivers use mindful movement, balance and breathing techniques to help reduce anxiety, increase bodily awareness and regain strength and mobility. Critical Topics in Parenting: Supporting the Mental Health of Tweens and Teens

The past year of isolation, home schooling, and social distancing from family and friends has created higher incidences of anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts in children. Join us to hear Dominique Foulkes, MD, Medical Director and Chair of Pediatrics at Suburban Hospital, and Rachel Larkin, Director of Crisis Prevention and Intervention Services at EveryMind, talk about their work assisting tweens and teens in crisis.
